Perez leaving Sunshine State

A Miami news anchor allegedly fired for being gay is headed to a new home town. Charles Perez told the Miami Herald that he and his partner, Keith, are headed to Connecticut.

“I’m no longer willing to live in a place where I can’t get married, can’t adopt children, and where there are no state laws to protect me from being fired because I’m gay,” he said.

Perez made headlines last month after he was demoted from weeknight evening anchor to the weekend desk at WLPG. On July 29, he filed the complaint with the county. A few days later, he was fired. Station management maintains that the decision was based on budgetary concerns.
