Classically Demented: A Darkened Fable of Storybook Characters You Thought You Knew

The abstract Classically Demented tells the story of â┚¬Å”The Queenâ┚¬Â taking over Mother Goose Land through intricate, interpretive dance. If you're looking for Disney, think again. Princes turned into gay vampires, zombie princesses, violent casualties; this is definitely not the fairy tale Disney would've imagined. While the choreography in this dance spectacle was executed flawlessly by Yow Dance Company, the story itself was hard to follow. Simple Simon bites a prince and he turns gay? Rapunzel kills off the other princesses, sans Aurora, who keeps Snow White as her lesbian slave?  Jack B. Nimble saves the land by giving The Queen love? Your guess is as good as mine. Noteworthy, is Philip Ancheta's portrayal and superb dance and body manipulation as the â┚¬Å”Pied Piperâ┚¬Â and Christin Carlow as â┚¬Å”Snow White,â┚¬Â who maneuvers on stage with precision and control throughout each dance sequence. Carlow also plays a bad-ass â┚¬Å”Redâ┚¬Â who hunts the Big Bad Wolf with a tommy-gun, which made for some much appreciated light-heartedness.
