Central Florida Sounds of Freedom Marching Band and Color Guard introduced Fringe to a new genre of show this year: color guard. For those not familiar with color guard, it might be most recognizable as the flag and rifle twirlers that accompany marching bands.
Spinzophrenia: â┚¬ËœTotally' Loving the 80's showcases the talent of this new LGBT and Ally flag corps set to the beat of 80's classics, such as Michael Jackson's â┚¬Å”Beat Itâ┚¬Â and â┚¬Å”Karma Chameleonâ┚¬Â by Culture Club. Overall, the performance is energetic with ensemble numbers that showcase the group's precision. Of special note is a riveting solo by local teacher Mike McKee who magnificently transforms a translucent flag into a seeming aquatic experience. Despite a few awkward transitions and an incongruous speech from the director that probably should have been reserved for the program, â┚¬Å”Spinzophreniaâ┚¬Â is an enthusiastic, eye-catching, fun-filled display. For a freshman production of a type of show never before seen by a Fringe audience, it was well worth the price of admission and had the audience on their feet.
