Former NSYNC member Lance Bass was an ambassador for a mass wedding event in Fort Lauderdale which wed 100 same-sex and straight couples from all around the world.
The event, dubbed “Love is Love,” had couples from 18 states, various South American countries, England and Italy. Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau CEO and president Nicki E. Grossman hosted the event, which showed that now in Florida anyone can marry.
Bass was with husband Michael Turchin at the event, which happened to fall on the same day as the broadcast of the E! Network special “Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding.” The airing of their December wedding marks the first time a celebrity gay marriage has been broadcasted on American television .
Sunshine Cathedral’s Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins presided over the 100 marriages. Every attendee was given a gift from Jet Blue and various local businesses, with one couple winning a honeymoon from Cruise Planners.
Although same-sex marriage is now recognized in Florida as of Jan. 6, many of the newlyweds will be going back to a state or country where this isn’t the case.
