It seems LGBTs like to congregate in Florida’s major metro areas.
According to a new Gallup poll, the Orlando, Tampa, Miami and Jacksonville metro areas are all in the top 25 in the nation when it comes to LGBT population density. Jacksonville and Miami are 16th and 17th, while Orlando and Tampa are 20th and 21st.
Jacksonville is 4.3% LGBT, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach is 4.2% LGBT, while the Orlando and Tampa areas both clock in at 4.1% LGBT.
That’s compared to the most LGBT metro area, San Francisco, at 6.2%. The U.S. metro area with the lowest LGBT population density is Birmingham, AL at 2.6%. The poll does not report much variation overall, with all cities falling near the national average of 3.6%.
To find these numbers, Gallup asked more than 374,000 people “Do you, personally, identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender?” between June 2012 and December 2014.
