MACON, Ga. (AP) | A handgun connected to a different shooting in Georgia recently helped investigators make an arrest in the 2017 shooting death of a transgender woman, authorities said.
The gun that Horace Jamal Marsh used in a 2018 shooting that wounded a man in Macon was connected to the Halloween 2017 killing of Candace Towns, Bibb County Sheriff David Davis told The Telegraph of Macon.
The sheriff said advanced ballistics testing and dogged investigative work led to the break in the case.
Marsh, 26, who was out of jail awaiting trial in the 2018 shooting, was arrested July 16 and charged with murder, authorities said.
It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
Towns was found dead between two abandoned homes near downtown Macon on Oct. 31, 2017. She had been shot in the face, authorities said
Investigators are now taking a fresh look at grainy video footage of Towns getting inside a car at a motel a few days earlier, Davis said.
“This is a case almost three years old, but we continue to follow leads on these cases … These cases never really go cold,” Davis said.
