ORLANDO | Orlando Pride players Toni Pressley and Marta Vieira da Silva, known publicly just by the name Marta, announced on Instagram Jan. 4 that they are engaged.

Photos of the couple showing Pressley’s engagement ring, were posted to each of their Instagram accounts with Pressley writing “Yes” followed by smiling face surround by hearts emoji and Marta writing “This is another chapter of the story that we are writing together,” in both English and her native Portuguese.

Marta, who is originally from Brazil, is often referred to as the greatest female soccer player of all time. She has been named FIFA World Player of the Year six times and has scored a record 17 goals at FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments.

Pressley is one of only four players remaining from the Orlando Pride’s inaugural 2016 season. Marta joined the team the following year.

The couple’s engagement announcement comes about a year after fellow Orlando Pride teammates Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris married in a Miami ceremony Dec. 28, 2019.
