SARASOTA | Sarasota Pride’s impending 31st celebration has been postponed until Oct. 22 due to COVID-19 concerns.
Sarasota Pride, Inc., its organizing nonprofit, announced the decision Jan. 6. It was originally scheduled to return Jan. 22 after a 2021 postponement.
“As much as we hated to postpone Sarasota Pride again, our Board of Directors felt it was the best decision given the circumstances,” Sarasota Pride President Cindy Barnes shared.
“We know our community wants to come out to celebrate together, but they’ve also told us that they want to wait to do that when they feel it’s safer,” she continued. “We can’t wait to celebrate Pride with our entire community in October.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the COVID-19 Omicron variant “is spreading quickly and has the potential to impact all facets of our society.”
The organization advises that “prevention is our best option: get vaccinated, get boosted, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial and high community transmission, and take a test before you gather.”
