ORLANDO | Central Florida Community Arts will be hosting cast members of the Tony Award-winning musical “A Strange Loop” at The Abbey Orlando March 28.
“A Strange Loop’s” L Morgan Lee, who played Thought 1 and was the first trans performer to be nominated for a Tony Award; John-Andrew Morrison, who played Thought 4 and was Tony nominated; James Jackson Jr., who played Thought 2; and Jason Veasey, who played Thought 5; will join host Chevalier Lovett for “Make Them Hear You: Black, Gay & On Broadway,” a one-night only event benefiting CFCArts. The panel will be joined by Central Florida musician and educator Dr. Terrance Lane and will be moderated by CFCArts CEO and Watermark contributor Terrence Hunter.
“The arts have always been a vehicle for social change and commentary,” Hunter said in a press release. “In addition to providing an escape, they also provide unparalleled insight into the experiences of others, allowing us to build, among other things, empathy and understanding.”
During the event, the panel will discuss their personal journeys to Broadway, musical moments that shaped them as artists and the social issues in “A Strange Loop” and other productions. The cast will also be singing and performing.
“A Strange Loop” is Michael R. Jackson’s award-winning musical that follows Usher, a Black queer man writing a musical about a Black queer man writing a musical. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2020 and won two Tony Awards in 2022 for Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical for Jackson. The show closed on Broadway Jan. 15 after 314 performances.
“Make Them Hear You: Black, Gay, and on Broadway” take place March 28, starting at 8 p.m., at The Abbey Orlando. Tickets will be available starting at 2 p.m. today at CFCArts.com/StrangeLoop.
