ORLANDO | Orlando Fringe Festival executive director Alauna Friskics announced Oct. 4 that she will be stepping down.

Friskics, who has been in the role for seven years, helped to lead Orlando Fringe through the pandemic as well as expanding the popular Orlando festival with its Winter Mini-Fest and its year-round permanent venue Fringe ArtSpace downtown.

“Choosing to leave an organization that I truly love is one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Friskics said in her announcement, writing the Orlando Fringe has been “a core part of my life since 1998.”

Friskics will remain in her position through Jan. 15 while the board looks “to find the right person to lead the organization into the future.” She continues in her announcement, stating that once her official departure date has passed she will be taking time off to regroup, rest and recharge.

“I’ve been a non-profit arts leader for almost 20 years. I think it’s healthy to step away from that and re-examine what’s next for me,” she said. “There’s never a good time for a leader to exit an organization. But I feel confident I am leaving it in a healthy place.”

Friskics’ final event for Orlando Fringe will be the organizations 2024 Winter Mini-Fest in January.
