NORTH BERWICK, Maine (AP) – A transgender boy from Lebanon, Maine, has been voted Homecoming King at Noble High School.
The announcement of Stiles Zuschlag as king was made Oct. 6 at halftime of Noble’s homecoming game against Greely.
Zuschlag tells WCSH-TV when he heard the announcement that “my heart kind of dropped.”

Zuschlag says he transferred to Noble after he was asked to leave Tri-City Christian Academy in Somersworth, New Hampshire, because of his gender identity.
Zuschlag came out as transgender in 2015, and says being honored as homecoming king “was the most surreal thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Noble administrators say Stiles is not the school’s first transgender student.
