When NBA player Jason Collins announced two weeks ago he was gay, many NFL players offered their public support.
NFL Commissioner Steve Goodell said that he expects professional football players to react in much the same way. The comments came in an NFL.com interview May 9 with Steve Wyche.
“Our players are terrific and they are not only tolerant but they are also accepting,” Goodell said. “I am very confident that if that day ever comes, or when it comes, that our players will react in a very positive way.”
Goodell said it’s just a matter of time before an NFL player comes out. Someday, he said, it won’t even be a big story anymore.
