Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended all on-premises dining and alcohol consumption at restaurants across Florida in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The governor issued Executive Order 20-71 March 20. It allows restaurants to continue takeout or delivery orders and extends the sales to alcohol with proper I.D., effective immediately.
The order follows Florida’s closure of all bars and clubs for 30 days, prompting Central Florida and Tampa Bay entertainers financially dependent on performances at venues to stream shows online. It also comes with the postponement of Dining Out for Life (DOFL) Tampa Bay, the 15th annual fundraiser for Empath Partners in Care (EPIC) originally scheduled for April 30.
The annual event raises funds for organizations serving those impacted by HIV in establishments that donate a portion of their sales on a specific date. Last year’s gathering raised more than $47,000.
“Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, Dining Out for Life 2020 has been postponed,” EPIC shared March 20. “Once a new date is established, we will post it immediately. Thank you to all of our restaurants, Ambassadors, and sponsors who are standing with us during this challenging time. Please consider supporting our food and beverage industry partners during this difficult time.”
