Lady Gaga and South Korea’s all-girl, K-pop group BLACKPINK have joined musical forces on a newly-released song.
“Sour Candy” was officially released early this morning after a leaked version of the song began circulating on Twitter.
The song has been described as an “electro-pop tune” with a “bouncy house beat,” in which Gaga and Blackpink compare their love to an unpredictable sugar rush.
“I’m hard on the outside, [b]ut if you give me time, [t]hen I could make time for your love,” Gaga sings, while Blackpink sings “I’m sour candy[:] [s]o sweet, then I get a little angry.”
A sense of mutual female empowerment was a driving force behind the creation of the song, according to Gaga.
“I wanted to celebrate them because they love powerful women like us, and they also wanted to celebrate me, and we had a great time together with this song,” Gaga said of the collaboration in a recent Japanese interview.
Fans on Twitter have been responding enthusiastically to the song’s release, with user astxerism praising the vocals of Gaga and Blackpink.
Even though we got clowned, GagaPink is a collab I’m dead for. From Rosé and Jennie’s sexy voices, with Vocalist Lisa’s sultry voice, and to Jisoo and Lady Gaga’s voices that just got me. It was just 🔥 and left me with no words to say. #SourCandy pic.twitter.com/70toKuBIds

“Sour Candy” is the third official release off Gaga’s album “Chromatica,” which drops May 29, and features production by Bloodpop and BURNS. The song was co-written by Gaga, Bloodpop and Burns, as well as Madison Love, Rami Yacoub and Korean-American rapper Teddy Park. It follows the release of lead single “Stupid Love” and “Rain on Me,” which features Ariana Grande.
“Sour Candy” and “Rain on Me” are not the only collaborations listeners can look forward to on “Chromatica.” “Sine From Above,” a yet-to-be-released album track, will feature additional vocals by pop icon Elton John.
