Orlando – Orange County Property Appraiser Rick Singh released a statement July 25 showing his support for marriage equality and the fight for personal liberties for LGBTs.
Singh’s short statement expressed his belief that same-sex couples deserve the right to marry. In his statement, he cited his contributions to the advancement of LGBT individuals in Orange County, which includes his creation of a brochure outlining property rights for domestic partners.
“Our nation was founded on the simple yet beautiful truth that we are all created equal,” Singh wrote. “Let us continue the journey toward seeing this truth lived out by recognizing all marital unions.”
Singh’s statement comes on the heels of four announcements by Orange County Commissioners officially expressing their support for marriage equality, including two Republican commissioners, Scott Boyd and Pete Clarke.
These statements of support come at a crucial time, when Circuit Judge Luis Garcia’s July 17 ruling that the Florida ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional is currently stayed pending appeal.
