MIAMI — Marco Rubio says he is running for president and feels ‘uniquely qualified’ to talk about the future.
Rubio announced his plan to run during a conference call to donors at the Freedom Tower, known as the “Ellis Island of the South”, in Miami on April 13.
Rubio joins fellow Tea Party members Ted Cruz and Rand Paul as the third Republican nominee in a group that is expected to contain Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida governor Jeb Bush.
Rubio has not been a supporter of gay rights since he became a U.S. Senator for the state of Florida in 2011 coming out against both same-sex marriage and work place protections for members of the LGBT community.
Rubio made his announcement one day after Democratic front-runner, Hillary Clinton, released a video stating she would be running for president in 2016.
