“WaterLog” is right. Rain, thunder, lightning, and then a flood of issues surrounding today’s scheduled Gay Days Weekend events.
The first thing everyone is talking about: a last minute venue change for One Mighty Party. You can see the complete story here. Isn’t the response from the Gaylord strange? You’d think they’d want to tell their own side of the story, not point to Johnny Chisholm – the guy whose camp is allegedly misrepresenting the hotel – as the source of all truth and information. I gave them a chance, though, and that’s all they had to say.
Oh, well.
The second thing that everyone is talking about is the Gay Days Expo power outage, leaving the vendors stranded, shut out from the Royal Plaza Hotel. Here is the story, as we understand it:
A worker setting up a tent drove a stake into the ground which triggered a transformer explosion, which injured a hotel employee, who was taken to the hospital. Watermark’s friends at the hotel say that the story from organizers, all day long, has been, “One more hour… one more hour…” but the Expo was set to start at noon, it’s 6 p.m. as I’m posting this, and as all you mathemiticians out there will deduce, that is a lot of one more hours.
We do know that the Reedy Creek Fire Department was on the scene for most of the afternoon.
Watermark’s friends have also reported that Expo organizers are saying vendors will be reimbursed, per hour, for the downtime. The other rumor is that the Expo will start early tomorrow. Since most of the vendors spent their unexpectedly free time by the hotel pool and bar, though, I’m not sure how many of them are will be in a good enough condition to start any earlier than 10 a.m.
All that, and this is just the first “full” day of Gay Days weekend. If things keep up like this, everyone had better keep their fingers on the Drama Button.
