Seniors arrested for public sex in Venice, FL

Two men were arrested for allegedly having sex outdoors at the Jelks Preserve, a nature and hiking spot that has become known as a cruising area for gay men. Sarasota Sheriff’s deputies arrested Warren MacConnell, 83, and George Farraher, 67, after they were reportedly having sexual intercourse on one of the trails.

The two men were taken to the sheriff’s office and charged with felony counts of lewd and lascivious behavior. The park where they were discovered is frequented by families and nature groups who use the trails for hiking. Recently residents in the area have asked for increased patrols because of the upswing in outdoor hookups among men.

If the two men are convicted of their charges they could be placed on Florida’s sex offender list.
