Blair's charges dropped after Father's Day arrest

The State Attorney’s Office dropped charges against former Hillsborough Commissioner Brian Blair, who was arrested on Father’s Day after an alleged conflict with his two teenage sons.

The arrest report stated that the 52-year-old had an early morning scuffle with his 17- and 14-year old sons that resulted in several thrown punches and a headlock. The State Attorney’s Office found, however, that Blair was not the aggressor in the conflict.

The heated conflict between the father and sons began before dawn when the Blair boys returned to the hoe around 4 a.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. When he confronted the boys about their late night, Blair told authorities that his oldest son lashed out physically, requiring the former wrestler to defend himself.

While he tried to restrain his son, Blair said “I was physically accosted by the other teen.”

Blair was initially arrested Blair on felony child abuse charges but upon further study that the elder Blair received most of the injuries in the conflict and that the younger Blairs’ injuries were not excessive.

The former commissioner, who has taken stands against LGBT Pride displays at libraries and the National Day of Silence protesting LGBT bullying, was ousted from office last fall when Kevin Beckner defeated him in the Nov. 4 election by more than 10% of the vote.
