Equality Florida releases endorsements

Equality Florida has released its endorsements for the upcoming St. Petersburg primary election, on Sept. 1. All three of the candidates endorsed by the LGBT equality group scored 100% on a questionnaire dealing with LGBT issues.

For mayor, Equality Florida endorses Scott Wagman, CEO of Scott Paints. Wagman participated in the mayoral debate at the King of Peace Metropolitan Community Church the week of St. Pete Pride and also participated in the promenade.

In the City Council District 5 race, Equality Florida endorses Steve Kornell. Kornell, a St. Petersburg native, would be the city’s first openly gay city council member if elected.

In the District 6 race, Equality Florida supports Karl Nurse, who is seeking reelection. Nurse has represented the mostly black district 6 for the past year and was appointed to the post vacated by Earnest Williams.
