Tampa Bay: What goes up must come down

Gravitational anomalies
Something must be happening with the gravity in Tampa Bay. Three people took some nasty spills recently on both sides of the bay. Singer Judy B. Goode fell at her St. Petersburg home and broke both of her wrists. She says she’ll have to wear casts for five weeks, but she is expected to be okay. She will continue performing at Streetcar Charlie’s on Mondays. On the same day that Goode fell, Gallery Live’s Mathiew Stanoch fell off a ladder and broke his arm and is now walking Ybor City in a cast and a sling. And finally, an unnamed attendee to the TIGLFF Gala took a nasty tumble down the stairs at the Ritz Ybor early in the evening. The young man, who some said had enjoyed too much libation, was walking down the stairs when he fell from about seven or eight steps up. Nothing appeared to be broken, but a nasty shiner was already starting to show as he was escorted to the door.

Battle on the softball field
There seems to have been quite a scuffle on the Greco softball fields during the Suncoast Softball League’s games on Oct. 11. According to several witnesses, a very heated altercation between D-Division teams Charlie’s Angels and the Starlets began near third base when an Angels player collided with a Starlet’s fielder. After the fielder apologized, Angels players confronted him, saying he interfered with the play, even though umpires did not call an out. Despite umpires’ attempts to calm players on the field, the argument continued when an Angels manager approached the opposing team inside the Starlets’ dugout. The Starlets won the game 11-8.

Café Dolce closes shop
The stumbling economy has claimed another LGBT business in St. Petersburg. Café Dolce, formerly known as Grinders, closed its doors suddenly late last month with no warning. The once popular coffee shop-turned-Italian-Restaurant, run by Phil Buffa, lost its lease because of consistently late rent payments, according to the restaurant’s Facebook profile. The post on the networking site goes on to say “Neighborhood Realty was just doing their job [by taking the lease]…the owners were tired of late rent. We always paid…in this poor economy is late rent not better than no rent?”
