After rebounding from the brink of extinction, Sarasota Pride is looking to redefine itself in the new decade. The annual LGBT Pride celebration, usually scheduled for May, will be held sometime in the fall of 2010. In the meantime, the board is looking for a new image.
The organization has put out a public “call to artists” to design a new logo for the LGBT event.
“While our present logo has served us well for the past years, we are looking for a new logo that will stand out at community events, be recognized at a glance and speaks to the future of Sarasota Pride,” said Cindy Barns on SarasotaPride.org. “This call is open not only to artists but anyone in the community who would like to participate.”
According to the site, the winning contributor will receive a $500 gift card to be used at any merchant that accepts credit or debit cards. Anyone interested in entering works of art must do so by May 1. The winning logo will be unveiled at a special Sarasota Pride event on May 15.
All submissions must include a color print along with an electronic version that may be submitted through the organization’s web site.
“We would like an artist’s statement telling us a bit about who they are and what thoughts they had while creating their logo,” Barnes said.
The winning artists will sign a statement that acknowledges the submission is original artwork and is not a copy or reproduction of any other work. That paperwork also gives Sarasota Pride irrevocable permission, without restrictions, to use the work in reproduction for displays, catalogs, posters, advertisement and will become the Official logo for Sarasota Pride and total ownership of Sarasota Pride.
