Buffet of Bear Events
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more complicated, there are rumblings of yet another Bear event this fall. The as-yet-unannounced Orlando Bear Bash is planned for September 16-19 at the Sonesta hotel on Lake Ivanhoe in downtown Orlando. An e-mail forwarded to Watermark states that Bear Bash will be produced by the for-profit Charitable Parties, Inc., a local event planner that funnels proceeds to charities. Co-owner Kyle Gilrain states his hope is that Bear Bash will become an annual gathering that involves “locals and local businesses.” The 20th Bear Bust, sponsored by the Bears of Central Florida, will take place October 14-17 at the Royal Plaza hotel at Lake Buena Vista. Stay tuned.

Homo Not-So-Happy Hour
The small-but-devoted following that tuned into The Homo Happy Hour at noon last Friday learned some breaking news: the show had been canceled. Also known as OUTLOUD ORLANDO, the hour-long show was hosted by Justice, whose irreverent take on gay life may have created problems at WPRK 91.5 FM located at Rollins College. Facebook postings suggest that Justice may have crossed station language barriers with words like “buttplug” and “facial.” In his comments, Justice contends that a double standard is being applied. Meanwhile, he’s podcasting from various locations.

Blink of an Eye
If you were watching the local news during the windy lightning and thunder storm last Sunday night, you likely saw video of a Thornton Park house demolished by a falling tree. As bad luck would have it, it was the residence of Watermark CFO Rick Claggett and our good friend Jenn Kunsch. As a sopping wet Kunsch shared on camera, she was watching television when the tree came through the roof, missing her head by no more than a foot or so. Just about everything Rick and Jenn own was ruined, and who has renter’s insurance? There will be a fundraiser for them at SIP on Friday, April 30 from 7 p.m. until closing.
