Langlois attends White House reception

A St. Petersburg resident spent the beginning of Pride Week with the President of the United States. Lorraine Langlois, executive director of Metro Wellness and Community Centers, was invited to attend the reading of a federal proclamation declaring June LGBT Pride month.

Barack Obama, along with wife Michelle, was slated to attend the proclamation luncheon along with other senior government officials. The event will honor individuals from around the country whose contributions have paved the way for sexual orientation and gender identity equality.

Langlois has served as executive director since 1994. She has worked in the field of HIV/AIDS services and prevention, and has shattered many barriers among the LGBT population, as well as among individuals of all races, ethnicities, and sexual orientation who are infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS and minorities who are infected with or at risk for HIV/AIDS.  Accompanying Langlois to the White House reception was Tonicia Freeman, Metro’s Director of Prevention and Minority Services.
