ALSO Out Youth will host a special Supper Party to raise money for its programs benefitting LGBT youth in the Sarasota and Manatee county area on Friday, June 25.
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, as the event has been dubbed, begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by an after party featuring drinks, desserts and a silent auction. The dinner will be held at ALSO Out Youth, 1470 Boulevard of the Arts, in Sarasota.
ALSO Out Youth creates programs targeting LGBT youth ages 13 to 21. Its mission is to end discrimination based on real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. The $30 donations at the Supper Party will go toward funding programs such as peer support services, social activities, educational programs and workshops, advocacy and referrals for LGBT youth, their families and their friends.
Board members David Sell and Ashley Steele, along with executive director Sue Westcott, will host the “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” event. The supper will also provide an opportunity for those interested to see what it takes to be a part of the volunteer board, which is actively seeking new members.
“ALSO is at a critical point in our history,” Westcott said in a recent newsletter. “We have to re-position ourselves in the community. We have to reach out to donors and friends. Mend old fences. Build new bridges. We must advocate and be the leader, ready and poised, to face or respond to issues that affect our mission.”
As part of the working board, members are responsible for all ALSO activities to sustain its mission in support of LGBT youth. This includes attracting, training and supervising staff; fundraising including cultivating donors, creating and attending events, preparing annual fundraising campaigns, etc.; volunteering in our Drop-In Center as time allows; meeting with community leaders and other outreach activities. The Board bears fiduciary responsibility for the organization.
