Community rallies behind Melissa Mason
After 35 years together, Martin Gordon, partner to Melissa Mason, passed away after a longtime battle with cancer. While his passing left Mason devastated emotionally, it also left her financially distressed. So in the true spirit of community, Tampa Bay is rallying behind the former Suncoast Resort diva. John Dean, a longtime friend of the couple, is inviting the community to donate to the cause through PayPal. Anyone willing to help is invited to log onto PayPal.com and follow the “Send Money” link. Simply click the “Personal” tab and then “Gift.” To direct money to the fund send donations to MDGFLA@Aol.com.

ASAP satellite office could close
After only a few months at its location within the Flamingo Resort in St. Petersburg, the AIDS Service Association of Pinellas satellite testing office could see its doors close. Sources close to the operation say that funding cuts could jeopardize the HIV/AIDS testing facility that has been extremely popular for the resort’s clientele. With funding dwindling, however, the newly renovated office could shutter its doors permanently. While no official statement has been made by those directly involved with the project, there are rumors that a fundraising opportunity may be in the works to save the ASAP project. When contacted about the possible closure, officials told Watermark that more information would be forthcoming soon about the future of the Flamingo office.

Furthering evolution
Sometimes a good idea just keeps evolving, just like its namesake. The Evolution of Drag returns to Ybor City on Aug. 22 with a bigger and better show sure to bring laughs to The Honey Pot. More than 14 entertainers are slated to appear at the multimedia show now dubbed “The Evolution of Drag: Revamped,” at 8 p.m. on the main stage. The show pokes fun at itself by incorporating impersonations, comedy bits and some amazingly fabulous—and tacky—outfits. The original scripted show has become an Ybor City tradition. Reserved seating is $15 and VIP access tickets are $20. The proceeds benefit the GaYbor District Coalition and tickets are available at The Honey Pot and at MC Film Festival in Ybor City.
