Record setters?
The Suncoast Animal League hopes to set a world record this fall by having the “Most Dogs in Costume Attire” during its annual Dogtoberfest in Dunedin. Local photographer and Watermark contributor Tom Leyden of Leyden Photography will be on hand to take the photo that could break the record. According to the Guinness World Records website, the most dogs to gather in costume were at CitiField in New York, N.Y., in April 2010. That’s when 208 of man’s best friend showed up in baseball-inspired outfits and captured the world record title. The Third Annual Dogtober Fest is at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, at Highlands Park in Dunedin.

Breaking the RULEs
A new organization has formed in Tampa Bay and hopes to rebuild the Leathermen Brotherhood that been suspiciously fractured the past several years, according to organizers. The Rubber Uniforms Leather Extremes (RULEs) will hold a “just-for-fun” event at Chelsea Nightclub in Tampa on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. A special men only social hour from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. will feature cigars and fetish attire. While that fetish attire isn’t required, a press release states that it is “visually” appreciated. The event is an attempt to reignite that portion of the LGBT community and hopefully lead to a reorganization of sorts.

Morning market flash mob
Despite the cranked a/c and the churning hurricanes out in the Atlantic, fall really is around the corner, and proof is the upcoming Saturday Morning Markets returning to downtown St. Petersburg Oct. 2. To celebrate that return, one area resident has a plan to gay it up as much as possible. Cory Adler-Leidersdorff wants a rainbow flash mob to dance in the streets when the weekly event returns to the waterfront near Progress Energy Park. According to a letter circulating and penned by Alder-Leidersdorff, he’s hoping to get a diverse group of people dancing to the music playing at the Saturday festival to showcase the diversity of the city. There are no specifics out there yet, but the market opens at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. weekly from Oct. 2-May 28. Details, including music schedules, are available at SaturdayMorningMarket.com.
