LGBTs and supporters wear purple in solidarity

There’s a decent chance it’s purple. Today is “Spirit Day,” one of the many reponses to the rash of gay teenager suicides a few weeks ago. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) sparked the request for all LGBTs and their supporters to wear purple on Oct. 20, as a show of solidarity for the victims of gay-based bullying and their families.

Additionally, there is a candlelight vigil in downtown Orlando tonight in memory of those teenagers driven to suicide by anti-gay bullying. It starts at 7 p.m. at the pagoda on the northeast corner of Lake Eola.

Another vigil is set for Oct. 21, 8 p.m. at the Reflection Pond at UCF.

A similar vigil was held in St. Petersburg. Story and photos can be found here.
