If you’re one of the hundreds of thousands who have attended St. Pete Pride in late June, you know that by the middle of the afternoon you likely feel proud, happy and very, very hot. And as you make your way up busy and colorful Central Ave. one last time, you likely wish that the party could continue—but in a swimming pool.
Watermark has teamed with ALandCHUCK.travel to address that situation. Their solution? Reconvene St. Pete Pride at the beach! They’ve contracted with the Postcard Inn to turn the beautiful hotel into a beachfront party for the LGBT community throughout St. Pete Pride weekend.
“I’ve been to every single St. Pete Pride,” said Watermark publisher Tom Dyer. “I always wish it didn’t have to end, and I always wonder if I’ll ever be cool again. The only thing that works is to go swimming. St. Pete Pride is just minutes from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Why not go swimming together?”
The recently renovated and delightfully retro Postcard Inn has a private beach and the largest swimming pool on St. Pete Beach. It also has 196 beachfront rooms, and all have been reserved by ALandCHUCK and Watermark Media for Friday, June 24, and Saturday, June 25. Plenty of rooms will also be available before and after those dates.
“We hope that St. Pete Pride will become a travel destination for people inside and outside Florida,” said ALandCHUCK’s Al Ferguson. “We think people will want to spend a weekend at the beach and attend all the incredible activities that make St. Pete Pride the biggest LGBT pride event in the state.”
Billed as “Florida’s only Gay Beach Party of the Summer,” the weekend will include a “Fire” sunset party on Friday evening, and a Saturday “Ice” party after St. Pete Pride. Everyone is invited back on Sunday for a final day at the beach.
According to Dyer, parties will be priced so that they are accessible to everyone who wants to attend. And there is no charge to park your lawn chair and umbrella in front of the Postcard Inn.
Events have been scheduled to complement and feed into existing St. Pete Pride activities like the Friday night Pride Kickoff Party at Georgie’s Alibi and the Sunday Tea Dance at the Flamingo Resort. ALandCHUCK.travel will provide shuttle service to and from the Postcard Inn throughout the weekend.
“We’re excited about this bold new idea from our friends at Watermark Media and ALandCHUCK.travel,” said St. Pete Pride executive director Chris Rudisill. “By attracting out-of-towners, filling hotel rooms, and creating something for thousands of people to do after the Street Festival, this helps St. Pete Pride grow in good ways.”
