After just under two years of existence, Stand Up Florida is no more. According to founder Anthony Farver, the equality activist organization is on indefinite hiatus and its website will be taken down, but its Facebook page will remain and continue to be updated.
In an email announcing he’s dissolving Stand Up Florida, Farver said he was inspired to start the group after watching the film Milk. He said five members swelled to thousands who have provided a number of services, including assisting LGBT youth with homes and jobs, helping struggling community organizations to stay open and advocating for individuals who were facing issues related to anti-gay discrimination.
Farver said “keeping up this level of engagement and energy has been wearing,” and he’s closing the organization so he can devote more time to his home, family and career.
Farver and his partner are the only remaining charter members, and until this announcement, had been running Stand Up Florida with the help of volunteer directors.
