Frenchie Davis to headline AIDS Walk St. Pete

For the first time, AIDS Walk St. Petersburg will have a major headliner to entertain participants after the 5K walk along the downtown waterfront on Sept. 10. Landing Davis worked for the event benefitting the AIDS Association of Pinellas because the singer was already scheduled to be in the area.

â┚¬Å”Getting Frenchie came up in conversation one night at Georgie's Alibi,â┚¬Â said Steven Rodriguez, who is in charge of entertainment for the 2011 walk. â┚¬Å”We were talking about The Voice, and figured she'd be a great person to ask. I pulled up her information and after sending her publicist an e-mail he called me back within minutes.â┚¬Â

FrenchieDavisThe performer and American Idol alum offered a greatly reduced rate to perform at the charity event and will also perform at Georgie's the night before the annual walk.

According to Rodriguez, Davis will take part in a VIP meet and greet reception on Friday, Sept. 9, at The Flamingo Resort's Blu Room at 7 p.m. She'll perform at Georgie's later that night around 11 p.m.

On Saturday, the day of the walk, Davis will take to the outdoor stage after the walk is completed. Registration for the AIDS walk is at 8 p.m. and the walk is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. This year's grand marshal is Chuck Henson, who is the founder of the St. Pete Twirlers group and the traffic anchor for Bay News 9.

â┚¬Å”We have a great lineup of entertainment this year,â┚¬Â Rodriguez said. â┚¬Å”Besides Frenchie we'll have Una Voce, the Memorial Bells, Alan Darcy, ROTC and the winner of Talent Quest Florida, who will sing the National Anthem. We're excited and we think this will bring a lot of people out.â┚¬Â

Teams can still register for the AIDS Walk, which benefits clients of ASAP on both sides of Tampa Bay. Money raised helps with medication costs, food pantry costs and more. For details on the walk or to register a team, visit AIDSWalkStPete.org.
