1920s theme party to benefit MDA

If the LGBTs love anything, it's a good costume party. So organizers of the upcoming â┚¬Å”Late Night Prohibition Partyâ┚¬Â are hoping for a strong turnout on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Bryan Hadley, who has been involved with several events in Sarasotaâ┚¬â€including this year's Harvey Milk Festivalâ┚¬â€came up with the theme to boost participation in the benefit at the Sarasota Vineyard at 1528 Main Street in downtown Sarasota.

Entertainers scheduled to appear include the Black Diamond Burlesque and Sarasota pianist Garrett Roberts. Guests are encouraged to dress in 1920s costumes to represent the dapper prohibition era of the United States' history.

â┚¬Å”My late grandfather Donald Cronin was an ongoing supporter of MDA,â┚¬Â Hadley wrote in a press release, indicating that supporting the national charity was a family tradition.

Tickets for the party are $25 per person, or $35 per couple and money raised benefits the Greater Sarasota MDA, which helps locals living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and other related progressive muscle diseases in the Sarasota area.

Specifically, proceeds will help send local Southwest Florida youth to MDA's summer camp, along with funding ground breaking research, wheelchair repairs, and maintaining local clinics for Southwest Floridians living with neuromuscular diseases.
