President Obama has thrown his support behind an Orlando-hosted Gay Games 2018.
In a letter to Orlando’s Gay Games bid team, President Obama stated:
“I am committed to advancing equality for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, both in America and around the world. For over 25 years, the Gay Games have built an international legacy of changing cultural, social and political attitudes toward LGBT people across the globe.”
In the letter, President Obama cited Orlando’s “vibrant tourism” as making the city ideal to host the Gay Games, which attracts an average 200,000 attendees including 14,000 athletes. Obama stated that Orlando would be “honored to provide the guests and athletes a wonderful, unique experience.”
“I strongly support Orlando’s bid, and I urge the Federation of Gay Games to approve it,”the letter said.
