A Presbyterian pastor in northern Utah has resigned from a local Boy Scouts executive board because he disagrees with the organization’s new policy allowing gay youth in the ranks.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that Neal Humphrey of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fruit Heights resigned from the Boy Scouts’ Trapper Trails Council executive board.
Humphrey says the Boy Scouts of America’s recent decision goes against his beliefs on homosexuality. He says they are asking him to endorse something the Bible says is a sin.
Under the new rules, gay adults will remain barred from serving as Scout leaders.
The Trapper Trails Council covers Boy Scouts in northern Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.
Fruit Heights is a city of 5,000 people about 20 miles north of Salt Lake City.
