Although a departure from your typical Michael Wanzie fringe show, There’s No Place Like Home does not disappoint.
In this production, Wanzie pulls together three one act stories. The first of revolves around the touching relationship of a young Jewish woman and her aging mother, the second a steamy tale about a Catholic priest and an his former altar boy and the third a Fringe-tastic hallucination between a drugged out Judy Garland and Glenda the Good Witch.
I was excited to see a more dramatic Wanzie production and it paid off. Although all acts were very well written and acted, I’d have to say the opening was my favorite. I’ll credit my love for the Golden Girls that I truly connected to the Dorothy/Sofia-esque relationship. Here, Wanzie finds the perfect mixture of drama and humor.
A certain hit!
