Orlando – Former boy band member and third-place-Dancing with the Stars finisher Lance Bass will promote Orlando as a LGBT tourist destination, thanks to Visit Orlando.
The ex-NSYNCer, who has a music-themed talk show on Sirius/XM Satellite radio, began singing with the hugely popular, multi-platinum album selling band.
“Lance [Bass] has had strong ties to Orlando since his days with the popular musical group NSYNC, which got its start in Orlando,” said Mark Jaronski, Vice President of Communications for Visit Orlando. “He is very respected in the LGBT community and we are happy that he is excited to be promoting Orlando to the LGBT community.”
The “gay tourist” is worth big bucks. American LGBTs are expected to spend more than $60 billion in travel this year, according to Out Now marketing agency. With Orlando being the top tourist destination in the U.S., that’s a lot to capitalize on.
“Lance [Bass] is sharing with listeners the breadth of Orlando as a vacation destination and how VisitOrlando.com/LGBT is a helpful resource for vacation planning,” said Jaronski.
Bass’ main avenue to promoting Orlando will be through his radio show “Dirty Pop” which airs on OutQ through satellite radio. But don’t expect to see Bass joining in on some of the fun in the sun.
“While Visit Orlando promotes LGBT events taking place in Orlando, we are not the creators or organizers of these events,” said Jaronski.
Sirius Radio has nearly 23 million subscribers, bringing a potential huge market to Orlando.
“He’s an ideal fit to help share our message that Orlando is a welcoming destination for LGBT visitors,” said Jaronski.
In addition to the partnership with Bass, Visit Orlando has an LGBT Guide that is distributed in national and regional LGBT publications, and an advertising campaign running with print and online ads in national and regional LGBT media outlets.
