Mykonos, Greece – A Miami drag performer is being hailed a hero after pulling a man from a burning car while in Greece.
James Davis, who performs as Elaine Lancaster, is in Mykonos for a month-long gig at the @54 Club along with New York drag performers Brooks and Lady Bunny.
Davis told the Miami Herald that on July 24, he was in his kitchen when he saw a car rolling back and forth outside his villa. He said he could smell the clutch burning and tried to warn the three people inside. Two of them jumped out but the man sitting in the passenger seat seemed frozen.
Davis said he reached into the open window, unlatched the man’s seatbelt and pulled him to safety. A few minutes later, the car exploded and was engulfed in flames.
Davis told the Miami Herald his only disappointment was that he wasn’t in character as Elaine Lancaster when he made the rescue.
