Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video Sept. 10 of a man setting fire to the front of Throb Nightclub.
The video, which shows the arson taking place Sept. 6 around 7:30 A.M., is of a man dressed in a dark, long-sleeved shirt and light-colored shorts walking to the front of the nightclub. The man is carrying a gas can, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
The man in the video lights a cigarette and attempts to ignite the fire by flicking it into the gas. When the fire does not start, the man heads back to the door, starts the fire and walks away.
The picture at the end of the video fills with smoke and the flames can be seen in the bottom corner.
The building’s sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading but the club is reporting that the arson caused more than $10,000 in damage, according to the Herald Tribune.
Anyone with information regarding the crime or who can identify the assailant is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 941-361-4934 or the state fire marshal’s arson hotline at 877-622-7766.
