Pulse owners establish non-profit, to make nightclub location a permanent memorial

UPDATE: Several media outlets have reported that the location of Pulse Orlando will be re-opened as a permanent memorial for the 49 victims of the Pulse shooting.

Watermark reached out to Pulse Orlando and was provided the following statement:

OOPS! Looks like we got the media’s pulse racing with an inadvertent Instagram posting that incorrectly stated the Pulse Nightclub was reopening as a memorial. As reported last week, the club remains closed for business but Ms. Poma’s desire is that someday a memorial be created at the site. The OnePulseFoundation was established to raise funds for victims of the June 12 tragedy as well as for a memorial. No monies have been collected at this time.

At present time no decision has been made as to the permanent use of the Pulse location. Watermark will report any changes to the above statement as the owners of Pulse make them available.

onePulseThe owners of Pulse have established a 501(c)(3) non-profit called onePULSE meant “to provide financial assistance to the victims affected by the attack at Pulse Nightclub,” according to website OnePulseFoundation.org.

The foundation states on their website that a permanent memorial will be built at the existing site of Pulse Nightclub. Pulse owner Barbara Poma has said that she fully intends to re-open the nightclub. Whether Pulse will be opened alongside the memorial or at a separate location has not been clarified.

The onePulse Foundation also announced a benefit concert to be held August 19 at the recently launched NeueHouse in Hollywood, California.

The event, titled onePulse: A Benefit for Orlando, will feature notable industry names, companies and performers and will honor and remember the victims of the Orlando shooting tragedy, according to a press release.

Names of performers and attendees have not been released at this time.

All proceeds raised from onePulse: A Benefit for Orlando through individual donations, corporate sponsorship and via the text PULSE to 91999 campaign, will benefit the foundation.
