U.S. Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.) discussed the state of the country, President Donald Trump and about possibly being named as presidential candidate Joe Biden’s running mate when she appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” June 5.

“We have had presidents that were elected that certainly weren’t my guy, but in times of crisis, in my lifetime we’ve seen our leader take to the sacred podium and reassure America,” Demings said in response to DeGeneres stating she is “terrified” over what is going on in the U.S. “We’ve seen leaders take to the podium and unify the United States of America. We’ve seen leaders take to the podium and heal and assure America that action will be taken to correct the wrongs. This president is incapable, he’s incapable of doing it.”

Demings goes on to call Trump “irrelevant” and “dangerous” saying he is “incapable of unifying.”

“You’re either part of the problem or you’re part of the solution, he is leading the problem in America,” Demings said, adding that there is a “complete absence of leadership in The White House.”

DeGeneres also asked Demings about the possibility of being the first black and first female vice president, commenting that she is on Biden’s “shortlist” of potential running mates.

“The idea that I am seriously being considered for such a critical position during such a critical time is exactly the kind of opportunities that I’m working hard for, and others who join me, that’s the kind of opportunities we are working hard for in this country,” she said. “So it’s an honor, but wherever I am and whatever seat I’m in, I am going to continue to work hard to my grave to right the wrongs and the injustices and the discrimination in this country.”
