ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center Orlando announced April 23 the creation of The Center Scholarship program “designed to aid and empower members of the LGBT+ community and their allies seeking the advancement of their education.”

For its inaugural year, The Center Orlando will award two $500 scholarships — one to a student from Orange County and one to a student from Osceola County.

“We are very excited to be able to start this scholarship program at the Center,” said George Wallace, executive director of The Center Orlando, in a press release. “Our plan is to grow the program and be able to include more students in the future.”

Applicants who wish to be considered for one of the two $500 scholarships must reside in Orange or Osceola County, hold a GPA of at least 2.5 and already be accepted as a student at a college, university or trade school program for the upcoming academic semester.

Scholarships will be awarded during the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast and LGBT+ Center Awards at the Sheraton Orlando July 21.

Application deadline is June 14. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipients for them to direct toward their education.
