The Connie House has opened its doors and is accepting applications for the new assisted living facility in Boynton Beach. The facility is gay-owned and gay-operated to make a space for LGBTQ+ elders.

Allan Hendricks, Board President and CEO of The Connie House, said that they are very happy to open their doors to the community.

“Our goal is to provide a safe, caring, and fun atmosphere that fosters a family of residents,” Hendricks said.

The facility is named after Connie Kurtz, an LGBTQ+ rights activist who was the first to sue the New York School board for equal benefits along with her partner, Ruth Bergman. The house was named in Connie’s honor after her death.

The facility is a four-bedroom, three-bathroom house capable of housing up to six residents. Services offered to residents include round-the-clock care and assistance from staff, three daily meals designed by a registered dietician, monthly housekeeping and weekly linen services.

Residents are also offered a wide range of social and leisure activities. The house is located near Compass GLCC, their local LGBT community center in Lake Worth and offers to transport residents there for events and social time. Their website also says they offer transportation to local houses of worship if residents would like.

As Palm Beach County’s first LGBTQ+ assisted living facility, The Connie House hopes to serve as an inviting place for LGBTQ+ elders to have peace and be who they are.
