DOJ Pride in a letter to U.S. Attorney General William Barr has expressed concern over the Justice Department’s failure to issue an Equal Employment Opportunity statement and “the declining morale” of the department’s LGBT employees.
“Congratulations again on your appointment as attorney general of the United States, and thank you for considering the issues this letter raises,” reads the letter that DOJ Pride sent to Barr on March 27.
“We look forward to working with you and your staff to advance our mutual interest in making the Department of Justice a vibrant and effective workplace that is supportive, fair, and inclusive of all,” it adds.
Justice Department spokesperson Kelly Laco in a statement she sent to the Washington Blade on March 29 said the department “is committed to implementing policies that will ensure equal employment opportunity in all aspects of the department’s daily operations and hiring practices, enforcing employment anti-discrimination laws, and fostering inclusive work environments that afford men and women from diverse backgrounds the equal opportunity to grow in their careers and support the Justice mission.”
“Additionally, it is the policy of the Department of Justice to foster a work environment that is free from harassment based on sex, race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, or political affiliation, among other factors,” she added.
