Cable network FX has officially greenlit a spin-off series to producer Ryan Murphy’s popular television series “American Horror Story”, according to a Deadline report.

In contrast to the structure of “American Horror Story,” in which each season presents a self-contained storyline from beginning to end, “American Horror Stories” – the upcoming AHS spin-off – will be formatted as a weekly anthology. This means that each episode, as opposed to each season, will have its own unique storyline much in the manner of Netflix’s hit anthology “Black Mirror.”

While the series currently has no official release date, it has been included as part of FX’s slate of original programming for 2021, indicating a release for the following year.

Murphy has served as an emblem of LGBTQ+ visibility throughout his career. Apart from being an openly gay man working in the entertainment industry, he has also co-created and executive produced LGBTQ-centric shows such as “Glee,” “Hollywood” and “Pose,” the latter of which was nominated for six Emmy awards last year. Earlier this year, Murphy was chosen by media organization GLAAD as the 2020 recipient of the Vito Russo Award, which honors “LGBTQ media professional[s] who [have] made a significant difference in accelerating LGBTQ acceptance.”

Murphy’s series “American Horror Story” has been renewed through its 13th season, with production on its current 10th season being stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 10th season’s release date has been officially pushed back to 2021. “American Horror Stories,” like its predecessor, will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV.
