Judith Light and Bette Midler join ‘The Politician’ for its second season

Legendary actresses and LGBTQ icons, Judith Light and Bette Midler have been added to the cast of the Netflix political dramedy, “The Politician,” as revealed by the trailer for the show’s second season.

The plot-line of the season will find protagonist Payton Hobart, played by Ben Platt, in his third year at Columbia University while also gunning for a spot in the New York State Senate.

Light will play Dede Standish, “a long-time incumbent and greatly admired Senate Majority Leader” and Hobart’s political rival in the state Senate race. Midler will play the role of Hadassah Gold, a “no-nonsense Chief of Staff” and Standish’s campaign manager.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, David Corenswet and Laura Dreyfuss are set to return to reprise their roles on the show.

“The Politician” was co-created by Ryan Murphy and the series served as Murphy’s first Netflix show after branching out from his working relationship with television channel FX, according to IndieWire.

“The Politician” season 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix beginning June 19.
