ORLANDO | The legendary Elton John announced Sept. 23 the new dates to the postponed shows for his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, which had been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
John will re-start with a show in Berlin Sept. 1, 2021 before he launches the North American leg of the tour in New Orleans Jan. 19, 2022. The tour will include four rescheduled stops in Florida: April 23, 2022 at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville; April 24, 2022 at Amalie Arena in Tampa; April 27, 2022 at the Amway Center in Orlando; and April 28, 2022 at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.
“I’ve been enjoying my time at home with the family while the world navigates its way through the COVID pandemic,” John said in a video posted to Facebook Sept. 23. “But, I really miss being on the road and performing for my beloved fans in my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. While the scientists are making great progress, we are making big plans for a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone.”
John — one of the top-selling solo artists of all time — has one diamond, 38 (multi-)platinum and 26 gold albums; more than 50 Top 40 hits and has sold more than 300 million records worldwide. He holds the record for the biggest-selling single of all time, “Candle in the Wind” (1997), which sold over 33 million copies. In August 2018, John became the most successful male solo artist in Billboard Hot 100 chart history, having logged 67 entries, including nine number ones and 27 top ten hits.
Over the course of the last five decades, John has earned six Grammy Awards, a Tony Award and an Oscar. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, received the Kennedy Center Honors and been knighted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for “services to music and charitable services.”
John announced Sept. 17 that an eight-CD collection, “Elton: Jewel Box,” will be released on Nov. 13. The “Jewel Box” collection includes 148 songs, 60 of them unreleased, that span recordings from 1965 to 2019 and his early collaborations with songwriter Bernie Taupin.
