The Pride Chamber, Central Florida’s LGBTQ+ chamber of commerce, has announced its annual expo and job fair. It will take place at the National Entrepreneur Center in Orlando Nov. 14 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The expo is a networking event for any and all people who wish to attend. Attendees will be able to connect and network with local businesses supporting equality and inclusion. They can also learn about new services being added to the work field and promote and make new opportunities.
This event is hosted for job seekers and providers. The Pride Chamber has also reached out to national business groups that can guide and help local businesses and give support.
The Pride Chambers director of membership and events, Vinnie Silber says the event can provide many opportunities to the LGBTQ+ and allied communities who seek a safe space for employership.
“I think it’s really important because the way, DEI is being attacked right now and a lot of businesses kind of shutting that down and legislation coming down from state or federal levels, it’s kind of a little bit of a scary place for LGBTQ or allied owned businesses or potential employees,” he says. “So for us to be able to offer this in a safe place is really important and really kind of setting the example of what others should be doing.”
For opportunists looking to attend the event, Silber says to come ready to network and interview.
“Definitely bring business cards and be prepared to be able to give that 32-second to one-minute business speech,” he says. “Introduce yourself and set yourself apart from others that might be attending so that that business you’re meeting with would want to do work with you.”
For individuals, he said to bring the essentials and come prepared.
“If you’re a job seeker, obviously come prepared with a resume and potentially be prepared to sit and talk with somebody and have that conversation,” says Silber. “Just come prepared to take the next step. It may or may not happen, but being prepared to do that would definitely be key.”
