Slut Like Me

As the audience walked into the Brown venue for the preview show of Slut Like Me, each member was handed an index card and pencil. The instructions given for the cards were to write a “never have I ever” statement and to “make it naughty.”
That about sums it up. Logan Donahoo acts the part of an impromptu teacher educating his pupils on how to become a slut – just like him. The show, while amusing, feels like a one-note comedy sketch drawn out a bit too long.
Donahoo starred in last year’s Complete Field Guide to the Gays and features a similar setup in Slut Like Me: himself, his laptop projecting a power point presentation onto the wall behind him, and a box of props. Most of the show is composed of his comments on the slides he has prepared – such as what one should keep in one’s “slut kit” and how to attract sexual partners through dating apps.
Donahoo’s infectious energy and entertaining personal anecdotes keep the audience laughing, even if the material is something that they’ve most likely heard before.
Tech-wise, the simplicity of the setup and venue suited the performance. Donahoo was given the opportunity to control the show with his control of the computer, and when the pace slowed down near the end it felt deliberate and kept the audience engaged, which is not common in one-man shows.
The show is worth seeing for the purpose of laughing and dancing along with Donahoo, even if it is about jokes that we’ve all heard while drunk at a stand-up comedy lounge somewhere downtown.
