Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan, 76, has died of a stroke.
Her manager told People magazine that McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace.”
She’s best known for playing the amourous Blanche on the popular 80s sitcom The Golden Girls, which is still in syndication. Her co-star Bea Arthur, who played Dorothy, died last year, and Estelle Getty, who played Sophia, died in 2008. This leaves Betty White, 88, as the only surviving Golden Girl.
“Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasured our relationship. It hurts more than I even thought it would, if that’s even possible,” said White in a statement.
McClanahan has been in show business since the 1950s. She also published her memiors, titled “My First Five Husbands.”
