Openly gay dancer Louis Van Amstel stopped by Sarasota recently to teach a “La Blast” class at the Empire Ballroom Studio in Sarasota. The Dancing With the Stars regular, who was paired with Margaret Cho this season, has consistently placed in the bottom of the pack.
Van Amstel introduced his new franchised exercise class to a packed room and talked some about his experiences with the hit ABC show.
“It’s about the journey,” the 39-year-old Van Amstel, who is originally from the Netherlands, told the Sarasota Herald Tribune. “It’s that you profoundly change someone’s life and, by that, the lives of the people at home as well.”
Van Amstel said Osbourne’s vulnerability and outspokenness changed his own life, he says. He no longer tries to obscure his sexual orientation and he took up combating obesity and bullying as personal causes.
